SALE's time.

Today is exactly 10 days I lived in Melbourne. 19 November at 08.35 according the local time I landed at Melbourne airport after 7hours flight from Jakarta. Exit from the airport I was greeted by a warm air, no different weather in Jakarta. According to a family who picked me up, the air was warmer than it should. From the airport we went straight to the city.
Apparently the airport to the city is close enough. Because I like to see the new, then my head all the way left and right continue to look to see beautiful old buildings adjoining the new building with modern style. We plan to look for breakfast, but no shops are open, the average open until 11:00. Finally we decided to eat Turkish kebab stalls. As an immigrant I tried a small portion, which was big enough, especially if the normal portion.

Portions of food here really surprised me. Fortunately a friend in Sydney had warned, "Mo, get ready to eat with a portion of 'giant' ". First I thought hell is giant portion, portions were huge, like meals for 2 people rolled into one. Hemmmmm, shocking, especially for the stomach which is still used by small portions.
Another thing that strikes is the number of banners depicting the Christmas party. Not a party invitation to the stable Nazareth, but the invitation to empty the bag at the shopping center. Christmas is still 6 weeks away but the shops are busy offering Christmas packages. It's Sale time. For them, Christmas is a chance to wash the barn. There are removing the old stock to be filled with the new. It's Christmas party. Is always something to do with the birth of Jesus I don’t knowing. What is clear is closely related to the business.
Arriving at the monastery I've got an invitation to attend the celebration of Christmas with the churches in Melbourne, particularly migrant churches. Crazy, Advent is a celebration not just Christmas. "Do not talk of Christmas, talk to Christmas, and Christmas is a party. Party didn’t need a long preparation, will be held at any time please," says a friend who makes my head throb a little dizzy.
How can Christmas be separated from the birth of Jesus? I protested in the heart. So during the first days here, I try to see and digest well smell scents of the city stretching while welcoming the birth of Jesus.
Christmas means a long holiday. There are very nice long holiday to spend with family. So, every company or particular groups competed to create a celebration to welcome Christ's reason for fun and employee relations. They are not fussy about the teachings of the Church. For them Christmas is a culture, that is understood by business people as an opportunity to dredge as much money as possible. Opportunity took the time to wash supply warehouse, the SALE with the large scale. It's Christmas. It's time to get a lot of benefits.
While out there are busy celebrating 'Christmas' with the meal-eating, a group of Catholics with lilting singing "Puuuutriii siiiionn nyaaaaanyilah, beerrrsorakkkkklah Yeeerusalem ... ....". They fervently began preparing to welcome the birth of Christ. Perhaps they are also troubled hearts, in their minds, too milling, "dumm, where we will shopping, buy a new clothes to party, what Christmas gift, and so on ... ...." Yet still touches hearts, they want to follow the teachings of the Church to prepare for the birth of Christ with the good.
I asked in the midst of confusion and awesome that, "What preparation to welcome the Christ? Is the rate of others, criticizing others, blaming others, or start collecting all the 'dust and rust' in the hearts for disposal so that 'the heart of rooms' worth later accepted the presence of Christ."
It's 'sale' time. It’s clearance time. Cleaning all the bad stocks was still there to be discarded, and ready to be filled 'treasure' new, namely Jesus. Welcome to prepare ourselves to welcome the coming of Christ.
